How do you know if you may have a hearing problem?

  • people appear to be mumbling
  • you strain to hear soft speech
  • you have ringing or noises in the ear - tinnitus
  • the TV/Radio volume often needs to be increased for you to be able to hear it
  • you have difficulty hearing conversation on the telephone
  • conversations with background noise is more difficult than it used to be
  • female or children’s voices are more difficult to understand

Babies and Children:

  • speech development is delayed compared to others of the same age
  • the child does not respond to sound
  • difficulties learning at school
  • appears inattentive, restless or has some behavioural problems

How do we test hearing?
The Important first step is comprehensive hearing testing to determine the degree and type of hearing loss. Our audiologists can interpret the results and advise if referral for medical diagnosis and management is necessary. Further tests may include speech discrimination in noise, and loudness discomfort testing.
